About Veneto Wine
Located in the north-east of the country, Veneto is one of the most productive wine regions in Italy, and the eighth largest in terms of land mass. It became increasingly important in the second half of the 20th century, and can be broadly divided into two distinctive sub-regions in the east and west. The region has a northern European climate, but is protected from some of the harsher elements by the Alps mountain range.
Veneto is primarily known for white wine production. The eastern part of the Veneto region houses the Prosecco grape, which is used to make sparkling wine, while other grapes in this part of the region include Merlot and Verduzzo. Meanwhile, the western region is notable for the prevalence of Garganega, which is used to create a dry, white wine called Soave. Other common grapes that are grown in this part of Veneto include Corvina and Rondinella.
