About Provence Wine
Situated in the south-east of France, to the south of the Alps, the Provence wine region has been producing wine for more than 2,500 years. Therefore, the region has been influenced by a wide range of civilisations, from the Ancient Greeks and Romans, to the Gauls and Catalans, resulting in a variety of grapes being grown in the region. Common examples include Mourvèdre, Folle, Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sémillon and Syrah.
Provence is known for its classic Mediterranean climate, with long, dry summers, mild winters and lengthy sunshine hours. The region is especially famous for its rosé wines, which make up around half of the region's total wine production. Meanwhile, the red and white wines from Provence are notable their strong thyme and lavender aromas.
