About Malbec
Malbec goes by many names - Auxerrois, in Cahors, Cot in the Loire and Malbeck in Argentina. At one time it was a significant part of the Bordeaux blend in France, however when the crops were lost in 1956 to frosts, cabernet sauvignon and merlot were largely grown in its place as they are more durable. All is not lost for malbec in France as you still find Malbec happily growing in South West France where its most famous wine is Cahors.
Malbec has however undergone a transformation in the last decade, and is now most famous for the spectacular wine it produces in the Mendoza region of Argentina. It is also popular in other new world countries such as Chilé and South Africa.
If you are searching for a good quality Mendoza Malbec such as the Argento, or a French blend like the Cahors Malbec Chateau Bladiniere, we have a selection which aims to please, and at prices which will keep you smiling.
Don't forget, if you want to try something new before you buy, you can, in our tasting room, which has over 150 bottles open at any one time to taste.
