About Stellenbosch Wine

Stellenbosch is situated to the east of Cape Town, in South Africa. It is the country's second oldest wine region, and makes up part of the area known as the Cape Winelands. The region has a Mediterranean climate, with temperatures regulated by the Stellenbosch, Helderberg and Simonsberg mountains, as well as the nearby waters of False Bay. It is estimated that the region accounts for around 15 percent of all South African wine production.

Red wine is the most common type of wine produced in Stellenbosch, with Cabernet Sauvignon being the most popular grape and also the grape from the region that has the best global reputation. With that being said, other common grape varieties found in Stellenbosch include Merlot, Pinotage and Syrah, while white wine production is primarily reliant on Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc.
