About Tuscany Wine
Situated in central Italy, Tuscany is one of Europe's most famous wine regions, and has a history dating all the way back to the 8th century BC. It has a Mediterranean climate, which is influenced by the Tyrrhenian Sea, while its terrain is dominated by rolling hills and other peaks, including the Apennine Mountains. It is estimated that the region is currently responsible for producing between five and 10 percent of Italy's wine.
While, relatively speaking, the Tuscany wine region does not produce a huge quantity of wine, it is notable for housing two of Italy's most famous wine types; Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Both are primarily made from the Sangiovese grape, which is the signature red grape of the region, although others grown there include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. White grape varieties, meanwhile, include Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
