About Maipo

Maipo Valley, or Maipo for short, is a Chilean wine region, situated close to the capital city of Santiago. It has a Mediterranean climate, characterised by dry summers and wet winters, and includes three sub-regions: Alto Maipo, which has a mountainous terrain, resulting in significant temperature differences between day and night; Central Maipo, which is the warmest of the three sub-regions; and Pacific Maipo, which has low hills and coastal influences.

The region is best known for production of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with more than half of its vineyards dedicated to growing them. Cabernet Sauvignon wine from Maipo Valley is known for its fruity flavour, with hints of eucalyptus and blackcurrant. Other grapes grown in Maipo include Carmenere, Syrah and Merlot.
