About Alsace Wine

Alsace is a wine producing region in France. The region produces almost entirely white wine, with the exception of wines made from the Pinot noir grape.

Alsatian wine has a German influence due to it's close proximity to the border of Germany, and the fact that they share the same grape varieties such as Riesling and Gewürztraminer. However, wines from Alsace are often dryer compared to their German counterparts.

Interestingly bottling of Alsace wines are subject to legislation that requires them to be sold in tall bottles which are often called flûtes d'Alsace. So you'll see many of the wines from this region have distinctively shaped bottles.
