About White Wine
As the white grape requires less heat to ripen than the red grape, you will often find white wine being produced in the Northern, cooler parts of wine growing regions. This is true in France with regions such as Alsace, Jura & the Loire Valley being the key white wine producers. Spain is one exception to this rule where Castile-La Mancha produces mostly white wine in high temperatures. The Catalonia region also produces a lot of white grapes and is famed for the sparkling wine Cava.
Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio (or Pinot Gris) are the most popular white grape varieties available today and can be found in abundance. We have a fine selection of white wines from around the world, produced using these ever popular grape varieties.
Some lesser know white wine grape varieties include Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Grenache, Semillon and many many more. If you love a good white wine and fancy trying something new, why not look out for one of these grape varieties on your next visit, you can give them a test run in our temperature controlled tasting room to help you find a new favourite tipple.
