About Merlot
Merlot is the most widely planted red wine grape variety in France but can also be found in every major wine producing country around the world.
Merlot is famously known for the important part it plays in producing world famous Bordeaux, where it is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc to produce some of the worlds most prestigious wines. Northern Italy also produce merlot to bring us stunning blended wines known as "Super Tuscans" where merlot softens the blend, often of Cabernet Sauvignon or Sangiovese. In the new world, such as California and Chilé, it has become a keen player as a varietal (100% merlot) wine - thought of as immensely drinkable and easy on the palate. The perfect every day red wine.
If you are looking for a good new world merlot at a fabulous price, the Calais wine superstore have a superb selection at prices which will mean you can stock up guilt free. Why not try the ever popular Lindemans bin 40 merlot from Australia, or the Casillero del Diablo merlot from Chilé, which will save you £4 on the UK price.
If you fancy a good quality old world merlot our selection of French bordeaux is vast and has something for everyone. The Chateau L'Abeille is a merlot dominated blend which offers immense value and is quite a find. As a real treat why not make the most of the savings and take home something rather special like the Le Canon Cotes de Castillon 2012, which has an £8 saving on the UK price.
