The eighth largest producer of wine in the world, German wines have historically been white wines such as Riesling - which is one of the finest white wine varieties. While almost two thirds of Germany's total production of wine production is white wine, the country produces wine in many styles including rosé wines, red wines and sparkling wines.
Germany has 13 wine regions or Anbaugebiete as they are known in German with Rheinhessen being the largest production area.
