Wine Goals for your New Year's Resolution 2020

Is it just me, or does it sound like we have landed firmly in the future?

So, as we celebrate the turn of a new decade why not go all new age on your new year's resolutions, and set some wine goals that you can keep in 2020, and, shock horror, actually enjoy!

Here are some ideas for you, and you will be pleased to hear there is definitely NO mention of a "dry" month or a set of scales.

Wine Goal 1 - Say YES to New Wines

We all have our firm favourites, it's natural. And why should that change?

But why not make 2020 the year that you drop your wine barriers and reach out to the wines you have previously dismissed as not to your taste.

Our tastes are constantly changing and that sauternes you once tried may well now be your perfect pairing. Broaden your mind and try to leave behind preconceptions that may cloud your judgement. (Chardonnay springs to mind!)

We make this easy for you in our tasting room - where you can sample beyond your comfort zone with ease. You never know, you may discover a new favourite!

Here are some of our recommended tasters to give your pallet a joy ride -

  1. Côtes de Gascogne Gros Manseng Chardonnay - £2.99
  2. Rioja Castillo de Albai Viura Blanco - £2.99
  3. Vida Loca Portuguese Sparkling - £3.99
  4. Herència Altés Grenache Noir - £4.99
  5. Sinfonia Sauvignon Blanc - £4.99

Wine Goal 2 - Throw a Wine Tasting Party

I'm sure most of us are experts at sharing our love of wine with our friends, through special occasions, gifts, and Tuesdays.

But if you have not done so before, why not make 2020 the year to host your very own wine tasting event.

Pull together a good selection of wines you haven't experienced before (we know somewhere you can stock up for this without breaking the bank).

Ask your friends to bring along their favourite bottle too, to share the love.

And stock up on some yummy nibbles if you're feeling really adventurous - cheese, bitter chocolate, salty nuts - to see how the wines interact.

If you want some more advice you can read our previous (tongue in cheek) post on how to navigate a successful tasting session here.

Wine Goal 3 - Take a Wine Trip

Now, I don't mean over to see us. (Though you should definitely do this too!)

Why not make 2020 the year you finally take that step to celebrate your love of wine. Visit a local vineyard or winery, attend a wine-related event, or, on your next visit to Calais, why not take some time out for a trip to the "City of Wine" in Bordeaux to fulfil the ultimate wine goal.

However you choose to mark the turn of this new decade, we would love to hear about it, so please do share your 2020 new year's resolutions with us. See you soon!
