Dona Paula Malbec

A genuinely interesting Malbec with great purity depth and length of flavour. Sure Malbec is Argentina's signature grape variety but much of it is simple in front of the TV kind of vino. This however you can take round to dinner party and be proud to put on the table. It raises the bar for wines from Mendoza and signals the success that is sure to come for wines from this country.

Tasting notes

Complex aromas with ripe plums blackberry blueberry sweet tar liquorice black pepper mint truffle and a hint of mocha flavours giving an expressive and typically Argentinean character. The palate has sweet smooth tannins a nice body and long supple finish.

Production notes

Handpicked grapes from 35-year-old vines were destemmed partially crushed (20% were left as whole berries and went through carbonic maceration) and cold soaked for 48 hours. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for eight days at 25°C with the wine left in tank for a further six days to undergo malolactic conversion. The wine was then pressed from the skins and 20% was aged in new French and American oak barrels for six months. It was bottled without being fined or filtered.
